Developing reusable documentation components for large middleware software solutions requires an effective content management and build system. To author and maintain the many thousands of topics, writers depend on the automated test and control capability of the system.

The following presentation describes the build and test system created for our team. I developed 90% of the system, including the Web design and application architecture, according to the requirements laid-out by our team leaders and from usability feedback from the writers and translators.

The system employs a variety of technologies: Perl, PHP, Ant, XML, XSL, MySQL, AJAX, Eclipse, JavaScript, Parasoft^® Webking, Batch files, and the Blat mailer. Despite its complexity, it is remarkably easy to maintain because of its modular design and thorough documentation.
